The Hop (Sound Piece)

Activity: Talk or presentation › Invited talk

Description

The Hop was commissioned The Hayward Gallery to accompany Jyll Bradley’s ‘The Hop’ sculpture. It is inspired by the futuristic electronic composition and sampling techniques of the 60s and 70s, particularly the work of Daphne Oram whose studio was located in an oasthouse in Kent. The majority of sounds you hear were recorded and sampled by Emily. It features a duality in its sonic materials, between authentic, raw, earthy sounds and futuristic, hard, digital sounds, which mirrors the sculptures.
