Personal profile

Research interests

My academic background combines a BA (First Class) and MA (Distinction) in music and sonic media with a PhD in Music Composition, alongside a Postgraduate Certificate in Performance Teaching. This training underpins a practice-based career situated at the intersection of electronic music, sound art, audio-visual media and socially engaged research. I currently lecture in electronic, popular and produced music at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and have previously worked as a post-graduate researcher at the University of Greenwich, lecturer at the University of Sussex, and Head of Department for Creative Music Production at GBMET.

As a lecturer, I place strong emphasis on research-informed, practice-led teaching that connects technical skill development with critical reflection on the social, political and cultural contexts of sound and music. I have designed and led modules in expanded music theory for electronic musicians, live audio-visual performance, and musicianship, and have extensive experience supervising and assessing practice-based dissertations and final projects.

My research and professional practice explore contemporary and emerging sound practices across a range of areas. I am currently Principal Investigator on Instrumenting(s), an interdisciplinary research project exploring sound, land and social law, and have worked as a post-doctoral researcher on the AHRC-funded p_ART_icipate! project, developing inclusive digital sound-art applications for health and wellbeing. Alongside this, I maintain an active professional profile producing sound and audio-visual work for installations, theatre and film, running an experimental music label, and founding a community-led culture magazine.
