Abstract

Valse pour la Groac’h de l’île du Loc’h is a short, melancholic, slightly ominous, waltz written for a small orchestra ensemble. It was written especially thinking of the place of the musicians on stage, and used as part of the "Recording orchestra in the age of atmos" event at the Performance Studies Network conference, hosted by the GSMD. It was recorded using a variety of spatial audio recording techniques (binaural head, decca tree, stereo pairs, and individual microphones on the musicians), and mixed in 5.1 for an installation at the conference. The piece was accompanied by a responsive 3D rendering of the sound (made using ThreeJS) and an interactive binaural web app (made using Resonance SDK).
