Read Against Midnight Blue

'Read Against Midnight Blue' is an atmospheric orchestral work, written with the intention of specific mixing in Atmos, created for the "Orchestra in the age of Atmos" event at the Performance Studies Network conference, hosted by the GSMD. It was recorded using a variety of spatial audio recording techniques (binaural head, decca tree, stereo pairs, and spot microphones in the orchestra). The mix employed multi-mono reverb mapped to the relative positions of a speaker configuration of 7.1.4, with various amounts of reverb then being introduced in the 'wrong' place (e.g. using the reverb from the right side position mixed into the signal from the left top front), thereby creating an uncanny, liminal immersive mix. The piece was down-mixed to 5.1 for presentation in installation at the conference.
