A work that was first performed with Jane Manning and Guildhall students, this piece is a dramatic meditation (part-comedic-part-melodramatic) on Schoenberg’s final days in Hollywood, with a somewhat mischievous exploration of Schoenberg’s music, dodecaphony, numerology, film and popular musical idioms of the 1940s Alasdair Middleton and I hope to expand this piece in the future – a topic that was discussed in the round-table presentation after the premiere.

RESEARCH AREAS: Life and work of Arnold Schoenberg; dodecaphony; film music and popular idioms of the 1940s; comedic elements in contemporary opera.
