Abstract

The Taverner Choir, Consort & Players are 40 years old.
This anniversary has been marked by, amongst other
things, a new recording of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo which
continues Andrew Parrotts pioneering approach to
music-making, performing L'Orfeo as an intimate musical
fable rather than a bombastic proto-opera. The Taverners'
birthday also featured a celebratory symposium in Oxford
on 7 April 2013 that offered musicians, scholars and critics
associated with the consort over the last four decades an
opportunity to pay tribute, reminisce and air their current
musical preoccupations.
